He began his career with Vinod Chopra Productions, the production company of director Vidhu Vinod Chopra. == Career == In 2005, Sarkar made his directorial debut with the film Parineeta which earned him the national film award for best Director. ''Parineeta'' was also Vidya Balan's debut. It was a critical and commercial success at the box office. Sarkar directed his next three films under the Yash Raj Films banner. ''Laaga Chunari Mein Daag'' with Rani Mukerji in the leading role of a prostitute. It starred Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone and was released in summer 2010. After making two flops Aditya Chopra gave him another chance. He directed ''Mardaani'' in 2014 which released 22 August.
